Frequently asked questions
The things people ask us most, answered straight. If yours is not here, call or email and we will answer it.
Are you licensed?
Yes. Stephen Fusting is a Licensed Master Electrician, registration #15121, and he performs all of our work. Verify here.
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry $1,000,000 in general liability, over three times Maryland’s required minimum, plus workers compensation. See our certificate of insurance.
What is your warranty?
We offer a lifetime labor guarantee and a 1-year materials warranty. (full terms)
What is your minimum job fee?
Our minimum job fee is $500, which covers dispatching a licensed Master Electrician, travel, setup, and the warranty on all work.
To support our local Severn community, we offer a reduced $300 minimum for homeowners within zip code 21144.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, we offer financing through Wisetack.
What payment methods do you accept?
Check, Zelle, bank transfer and cash are preferred (due to those pesky credit card processing fees!) We also accept credit cards (Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover), Apple Pay, PayPal, Venmo.
What areas do you serve?
We focus primarily in Anne Arundel and Howard counties. Most of our work is within about twenty minutes of Severn.
Further than that? No problem, feel free to reach out and we will see what we can do.
What are your business hours?
Our business hours are Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm. Feel free to email, text, or call and leave a voicemail at any time and we will get back to you during our business hours.
Do you do emergency work?
No, as a small family business, typically our schedule does not allow for last-minute bookings or emergency work.
Why should I choose Fusting Electric?
With the big guys, you get the big name, but never the big guy himself. With a larger company or chain, you typically get a journeyman performing the work (or if the company is a bit shady and trying to cut costs, you may only get apprentices, people who are not legally permitted or licensed to provide electric services, only to assist with it). It is rare you would ever get a Master Electrician performing the work.
With Fusting Electric, you get a Licensed Master Electrician at your door every time. Additionally, we do not have the overhead costs and expenses that larger companies have like rent, multiple trucks, payroll, and fancy software. This allows us to offer competitive pricing while still delivering the best of the best service.
Being a small business means we deliver top-notch, personalized assistance consistently. When you call us, we know you by name and ensure that your needs are met and you are 100% satisfied throughout the process.
How can I find out if you’re hiring?
The most up-to-date way to check our hiring status is by looking at our Indeed page. If no positions are posted, we are not actively hiring, but if you think you would be a great fit, feel free to send us your resume and cover letter.
How do you pronounce your names?
Stephen like Steven.
Ceanne like See Anne.
Fusting like dusting with an F.
How do I know if someone is licensed to perform electric work?
In Maryland, the ONLY two types of people legally permitted to provide electric services are:
- A Licensed Master Electrician
- A Licensed Journeyman Electrician operating under the direction or control of a Licensed Master Electrician
The following people are NOT qualified, licensed, nor legally permitted to provide electric services:
- Licensed Apprentice Electricians
- Licensed Journeyperson Electricians operating without the direction and control of a Licensed Master Electrician (i.e. a journeyperson performing “side work” or independently operating an electrical contracting business)
- Maryland Home Improvement Contractors (handymen, carpenters, general contractors). An MHIC license is not an electric license.
To search to see if someone is licensed to perform electric work, visit the Maryland Electricians Public Query. If the results state “Qualified Agent” or “Statewide Master Electrician”, that person is a Licensed Master Electrician and is fully licensed to provide electric services. If it states “journey statewide electrician”, that person legally can provide electric services ONLY under the direction or control of a Licensed Master Electrician. If it states “apprentice statewide electrician”, that person is NOT licensed to provide electric services, only to assist with it.
What’s the difference between an MHIC license and an electrical license?
Electrical licenses are issued by the Maryland State Board of Electricians to electrical contractors. You can look up an electrical license here.
MHIC (Maryland Home Improvement Contractor) licenses are issued by the Maryland Home Improvement Commission to contractors offering home improvement work including construction, carpentry, painting, and roofing. You can look up an MHIC license here.
Per Maryland Code Business Regulation §8-301(c)(4), licensed electricians are exempt from requiring MHIC licenses.
